Sleepyhead is a detective drama set in East London and based on a series of books by Mark Billingham. The ending did tie things up but I wasn't entirely delighted by the closing action scene though it certainly brought a conclusion.Īll in all, a good book which is certainly worth reading and I intend to purchase the next in series which fortunately is available in a next three episodes in one book deal.Eddie plays: DI Kevin Tughan ( IMDb link) I particularly enjoyed the thoughts of the victim who had been left paralysed and the relationship built up by her and her doctor and to a lesser extent, the detective who was the main character.Īt times, I found things a little confusing to follow as the writer chose to narrate the thoughts of previous victims of years before to the mind of the detective at various points and sometimes the thoughts of the current bad guy would appear, who we couldn't be sure of and this made things a little disjointed. The story was interesting with some reasonably constructed characters,who engendered dislike, with others who you wanted to have a good outcome. I did enjoy this novel and was intrigued to find out how things would end. Ich werde mir auch wohl noch ein weiteres Buch von Mark Billingham kaufen. Ich weiß, ich habe viel Negatives geschrieben, aber habe das Buch dennoch als positiv empfunden und würde es auch durchaus empfehlen. Besonders die arme Alison schließt man in sein Herz und wünscht sich nicht sehnlichster, als das sie am Ende aufsteht und Anne umarmt. Ich mochte die Charaktere sehr, auch wenn sie nicht so originell waren. Man hätte eindeutig mehr aus dieser tollen Idee machen können, aber „Sleepyhead" war für mich keine Verschwendung. Die ganzen Andeutungen bis zur endgültigen Enthüllung seines Grauens, nerven etwas. Īch ja, und seine Motivation, sein traumatisches Erlebnis, ist zwar glaubhaft, aber viel zu überdramatisiert. großer Fehler war auch, Anne's Tochter in die Geschichte zu verwickeln, denn spätestens dann merkt man, dass Thorne's Überzeugung nur falsch sein kann. Man möchte, dass der verbissene, gequälte Polizeimann die Wahrheit erkannte, die niemand sonst sehen wollte.
Denn er ist ja so sympathisch, wenn auch äußerst Stereotyp. Ich denke, er versuchte den Leser glauben zu lassen, dass Thorne recht hat. Billingham macht sich nicht mal die Mühe, den Leser auf zahlreiche falsche Fährten zu locken. Diese weist keine Überraschungen auf, denn wer der eigentliche Mörder ist, fand ich sehr leicht zu durchschauen.
Ich fand es durchaus spannend.Įinen großen Schwachpunkt hat das Buch dennoch: die Auflösung. Naja, Mark Billingham entschied sich allerdings für ein sehr simples Motiv, was nicht automatisch bedeutet, dass es sich hierbei um ein langweiliges Buch handelt. zumindest kam ich zu dem Ergebnis, dass es doch kein schrecklicheres Schicksal geben kann, als unter vollem Bewusstsein im Koma zu liegen. Nach wenigen Seiten stellt sich aber bereits heraus, dass der Täter keinen besonders erschreckenden Grund dafür hat, wo man doch vermutet, dass solch eine Tat aus tiefstem Hass hervorgeht. Schließlich stolpert man nicht jeden Tag über einen Serienkiller, der seine Opfer gar nicht töten will, sondern es darauf abgesehen hat, sie ins Koma zu versetzen. When Thorne, helped by the neurologist looking after Alison, starts to realise what he is up against he knows the case is not going to be solved by normal methods - before he can find out who did it he has to understand why he's doing it.ĭie originelle Story machte mich neugierig auf dieses Buch. But it was the others who were his mistakes: he doesn't want to take life, he just wants to put people into a state where they cannot move, cannot talk, cannot do anything but think.
Tom Thorne believes the murderer has made a mistake, which ought to allow them to get on his tracks. The police aren't making much progress in their hunt for the killer until he appears to make a mistake: Alison Willetts is found alive and D.I. Then a sharp pathologist notices traces of benzodiazepine in one of the victim's blood samples and just traceable damage to the ligaments in her neck, and their cause of death is changed from 'natural' to murder. It's rare for a young woman to die from a stroke and when three such deaths occur in short order it starts to look like an epidemic.
